Raynor Manufacturing Company was founded in 1944 and started small. In the 1970s and 80s, it acquired a trucking fleet and began national distribution, spearheaded by its TriCore insulated doors. As of 2023, it operates a 600,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and sells its products in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Now, it markets its signature Aspen line to residential clients everywhere, which is one of the most thermal-efficient options on the market.

Raynor Residential Garage Door Series

Aspen garage doors are the Raynor flagship offering. All four of these options are “insulated sandwich doors” with steel-insulation-steel three-layer construction. Three of these double door models come with large windows for increased light to your interior, and are available with insulation R-values ranging between 13 and 18. Choose between the following Aspen models:

  • AP200LV LuxeVue: 2-inch thick construction with multiple wood tone finishes available
  • AP200N Contempra: Narrow window profiles for a more modern look
  • AP200: Many of the features offered by the AP200N, with fewer window options
  • AP138: A slightly thinner door with many of the same wood finish options

This series offers slightly thinner construction with many of the same wood finishes and R-values seen in the Aspen models. It is also a three-layer door, but this line’s availability appears to depend on your local distributor. Contact a Raynor showroom for more information.

ShowCase doors are built on the Traditions base model with standard three-layer construction and two-inch thickness. It offers a 10.25 R-value for intermediate insulation. Homeowners in milder climates should consider this line. In addition, two color options and four designs mean you’ll have eight appearance types to choose from. Finally, Raynor offers a lifetime warranty against rust for this model.

The Relante Series features 14 designs and full access to more than 1,800 Sherwin-Williams paint colors for increased modern aesthetic appeal. These 13.08 R-value doors come with polyurethane insulation.

As a bonus, this series is available in size increments from four feet to 20 feet wide, and up to 10 feet tall. You’ll also have multiple window insert options to choose from. Full sets come with galvanized steel tracks and an anti-rust warranty for as long as you own your home.

Raynor Garage Door Quality Analysis

Materials and Construction Methods

Raynor garage doors and door sets come with the following:

  • 24-gauge galvanized steel construction
  • Polyurethane injected insulation (only the Encore line uses polystyrene board)
    • Raynor StyleView is a non-insulated option
  • Snap-in window options
  • Galvanized steel tracks

All doors are hot-dipped in a zinc coating, which helps to greatly slow any rust buildup. You should still clean your doors semi-regularly, but Raynor galvanized exteriors help to keep this required maintenance down.

Warranty Coverage and Support

All Raynor garage doors come with the following warranty protections:

  • Rust protection for as long as you own your home
  • Protection for all EnduraCoat hardware or springs for as long as you own your home
  • Protection for galvanized springs for three years and six years for all other galvanized components or products

This protection compares favorably to industry norms. Many manufacturers offer set warranties of up to 10 years after installation. Some others, like Clopay, offer paid lifetime warranties after installation. Raynor’s general warranty terms are shorter, but aren’t a paid or premium service.

Energy Efficiency and Insulation

Raynor doors come with R-values ranging between five and 18. Its less-insulated Encore line is outfitted with polystyrene foam and has R-values ranging from five to 12. All other insulated lines utilize polyurethane injected material and have R-values up to 18.

In addition, many of this manufacturer’s models feature the following:

  • Thermal break and air seal: While not airtight, this junction between individual panels offers increased draft protection.
  • Weatherseal: This malleable vinyl strip allows for increased shielding from the elements along the bottom of your doors.

Durability and Longevity Testing

Raynor voluntarily participates in the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association (DASMA) Thermal Performance Verification Program. This third party advertises testing for a proprietary “U-Factor”. It states that, while R-values are reported by manufacturers, U-Factor is a measure of heat actually transferred through doors via testing. The lower the U-Factor, the better.

Aside from independent testing for U-Factor, all Raynor models have hot-dipped galvanized coatings which help to shield from rust. You can expect rust shielding to last for as long as you maintain a consistent upkeep and cleaning schedule.

Raynor Garage Door Openers and Smart Features

Raynor Opener Models and Features

Raynor also offers its own line of smart garage door openers. These include space-saving jackshaft models and more conventional belt-driven options. Choose from the following:

  • Prodigy III: A jackshaft motor compatible with torsion spring doors that offers far quieter operation than conventional openers.
  • Sentinel 360: Belt-driven unit with a built-in camera and full garage bay LED light.
  • Sentinel III: A belt-drive motor coupled with WiFi capabilities and a 130-degree camera.
  • Ultra II with WiFi: A belt-driven AC motor that is ideally suited for heavier doors. It comes with a robust drive bar which can support more weight than many opener systems.
  • Pilot II with WiFi: A good basic opener with smart home integration options. Its ½-horsepower motor can lift most doors.
  • Airman II with WiFi: Another basic WiFi-capable motor with ½-horsepower lifting capacity.
  • Sergeant II with WiFi and Battery Backup: This chain-drive opener is designed to lift heavier doors and comes with all modern WiFi integration features.
  • Corporal II with WiFi: The Corporal II is another ½-horsepower option with a chain drive and smart home integration options.

Belt drive motors are among the quietest overhead garage door opener types. Either these or jackshaft motors are the best option for reducing noise. However, chain drive motors can sometimes lift heavier doors.

Most Raynor openers come with a 4-year overall warranty, along with a 1-year parts warranty. Explore the product brochure for any opener you consider for more in-depth details.

Smart Home Integration and Connectivity

MyQ is Raynor’s smart garage integration of choice. This suite of security options includes a mobile app for remote opening and closing, smart garage cameras for round-the-clock monitoring, myQ video keypad options and smart keypads and doorknobs for side door access. You can pair all of these products with any Raynor opener you purchase.

Safety and Security Features

Like most modern garage door openers, all Raynor products come with safety options, including:

  • Photo Eyes: Helps to prevent crushing injuries by triggering an automatic reverse if objects cross your garage threshold while in operation.
  • MyQ Integration: Smartphone capabilities that allow remote operation and monitoring
  • Sensing Edge: This is located on the bottom of your door and triggers an auto-reverse if resistance is detected during operation.
  • PosiLock: Protects against forced openings or outside hacking.

Cost Analysis of Raynor Garage Doors

Price Ranges by Product Series

We’ve listed some average installed costs for Raynor’s more common lines. You’ll note that pricing is difficult to find if you aren’t getting your own direct custom quote. Your overall price for a new door will depend on the product line you choose, door size, opener type, hardware and track requirements and local labor rates.

  • Aspen: $1,400–$2,000 per single door
  • Traditions: $1,500–$2,500 per single door
  • ShowCase: Contact for pricing
  • Relante: Contact for pricing

Installation Costs and Considerations

Raynor doesn’t list the average cost of installation on its site. However, Precision Garage Door lists the average rate for garage door replacement as $2,743. Your total will depend on the garage door you need, along with the following:

  • Garage door model
  • Opener type (if replacing)
  • Track replacement
  • Garage configuration
  • Local labor rates

All garage door openers require that you plug directly into an electrical outlet. Due to the high voltage required, extension cords are strongly advised against, and could void your warranty. If you require that a new outlet be installed, you should plan to hire an electrician as well.

Initial costs for professional installation may be high, but paying for garage pros will grant you access to labor warranties. These can help mitigate short-term repair costs if anything goes wrong with your door system in the first few years after installation.

Long-term Value and ROI

DASMA’s estimates of a new garage door’s ROI shows that, through replacing your doors, you can recoup up to 194% of your total cost when selling your home. Here are some features to consider if you want to maximize your returns:

  • Durability and materials used in your doors
  • Insulation and R-values
  • Opener type and noise levels
  • Warranty coverages and transferability

Is a Raynor Garage Door Right for You?

If you want a more budget-friendly option, Raynor’s doors may be a good option. It has relatively few product lines, but its many finish options are a highlight for homeowners who want luxury appearances and lower rates.

Raynor offers mostly metal doors. Their three-layer construction with insulative core make them a good pick for colder climates, and their lighter weight means that you have numerous opener options.

Customer reviews are mixed. Raynor has a rating of 3.2 out of 5 stars on Yelp through more than 40 testimonials. Positive reviews praise its speed of service, while negative reviews cite difficulties with filing warranty claims.

Decision-Making Framework

When choosing a new garage door, you should consider the following in your decision-making process, in this order:

  1. Cost
  2. Compatibility with existing hardware
  3. Product warranties
  4. Insulation R-values
  5. Aesthetics

Luxury options are nice, but if you have to break the bank to afford them, it won’t matter. Budget is always a primary consideration. You should write down the existing specs of your opener and garage door to discuss with your technician during the quote phase as well. Certain factors like door weight and current opener capacity will affect which door you can purchase.

Final Recommendations and Next Steps

Raynor offers primarily metal garage doors with insulation included. This makes them ideal for lighter-duty openers and for temperature regulation in the interior of your garage. If you’re considering a consultation in your home, you should do the following:

  • Clear the possible work area in your garage for easier access
  • Collect your current garage door and opener specs
  • Note the age of all current hardware and door parts if possible
  • Prepare to get quotes from other manufacturers
